How ABC began

We started as a group of 11 friends meeting for a fortnightly Bible study in summer 2020. What started initially as a Covid-19 support group, by God’s grace, became a unique discipleship meeting centered around a rigorous study of God’s word and deepening friendships.

We continued to meet over the next few years, and during that time our concerns about Church of England leadership and theology grew. In November 2023, we held an inaugural prayer meeting to gauge interest in planting an independent church in Finsbury Park. Over 30 people attended and 20 registered a strong interest in joining as founding members.

In summer 2024, the current ABC elders left the Church of England to attend the closest FIEC church, St Giles Christian Mission, for 6 months. During this time, they were grateful to be shown a healthy model of elder-led congregationalism.

In January 2025, we started monthly prayer meetings and began a consultation process for our membership handbook. In February, we started a house church on Sundays with 5 founding members. From March onwards, we began to develop other structures including: venue,  financials, safeguarding, charity status, and FIEC recognition.

By July 2025, we had 12 members attending the house church and moved to our current venue on the Andover Estate. Thanks to God’s kindness, we had our public launch in September 2025 with 19 founding members from diverse backgrounds. Soon after, ABC became a recognised church plant of the FIEC.
